Enseignement de l'anglais/Proposition infinitive

On emploie la proposition infinitive en anglais pour traduire je veux qu'il ..., il conseille que je .... La proposition infinitive est composée d'un sujet (qui est le complément d'un 1er verbe), d'un verbe à l'infinitif et parfois d'un complément.

• Quand le sujet est un pronom, il est à la forme complément : me, you, him, her, it, us et them.

Forme affirmative

SUJET 1 + VERBE 1 + SUJET 2 (sujet de la proposition infinitive) + VERBE 2 (à l'infinitif) (+ complément)

La proposition infinitive est soulignée dans les exemples suivants.
They ask me to help them. Ils / elles me demandent de les aider.
He ordered us to work. Il nous ordonna de travailler.
I allow my sister to watch TV. Je permets à ma soeur de regarder la télé.

Forme négative

SUJET 1 + VERBE 1 + SUJET 2 (sujet de la proposition infinitive) + NOT + VERBE 2 (à l'infinitif) (+ complément)

He persuaded him not to smoke. Il l'a persuadé de ne pas fumer.
You want him not to come. Tu veux qu'il ne vienne pas.

Verbes utilisés dans les propositions infinitives

to advise	to allow	to ask	to expect	to force	to hate	to help	to oblige	to order
conseiller	permettre	demander	s'attendre à	forcer	détester	aider	obliger	ordonner

to persuade	to prefer	to tell	to want	to wait for	would like
persuader	préférer	dire	vouloir	s'attendre à	aimer (subj.)

In most of these examples (3/5) the putative SUJET2 is actually one of two complements of VERBE1, as one can see be examining related constructions. For example:

They ask [me] [to help them].
They ask [me] [my opinion].

He ordered [us to work].
He ordered [a tuna sandwich].

I allow [my sister] [to watch TV].
I allow [my sister] [a candy bar after dinner].

He persuaded [him] [not to smoke].
He persuaded [him] [that the world is flat].

You want [him] [not to come] ou I don't want [him to come].
You want [a new computer].
